I am taking a poll, this does not mean I will answer your questions because I am just an amateur but I would like to hear the top 10 questions photographers have had or have now, from all photographers intersted in participating in this survey. This does not mean you have to come up with 10 yourself, just one or two maybe. Perhaps what was your top questions that you had either starting out or once you got to a certain level you wanted to know but did not know the answer? Of course even the questions you have now too. You can email them to me at jtsmith@kcds.net or simply reply to this thread if anyone cares to create one here and especially maybe someone will answer them if they are questions you have.

I remember my very first question at 8 years old and that was, what is an F-stop? Not necessarily taking this poll for that beginner of a question but I am intersted in hearing all the questions you have had or you need answered now.

Thank you,

J T

I started out in High School, doing school paper and yearbook work. After graduation I joined the U.S.Marine corps and became a combat still photographer.I spent 6 years as a combat still photographer. Then I was a motion picture & still photographer for Grumman Aircraft. After Grumman I opened my own studio, and do photojournalism for a local paper. Photography has provided me a very interesting life. my site agovan@aol.com

It's wonderful to hear your history but I was wanting to know the questions that photographers are wanting answered or questions that kept eating them up in the past.

My whole point was to see what questions are most asked by photographers of all skill levels and open the door for questions eating up most photographers regardless of skill level and perhaps spark a nice discussion of learning.

Why photographers don't feel they can be upfront and truthful?

.....that I was looking for more of technical questions of photography? LOL

I am surprised a 134 views and no one has any questions they want to ask. I guess everyone knows it all?

I thought maybe this would be kind of fun to do. Maybe I will just wait for prime time and see what kind of response I get.

How much is an 8 x 10?

How come an 8 x 10 cost so much?

Why do you use a flash outside?

I have a Nikon or Canon SLR, can I photograph weddings with you?

Can't you give me a break on prices if I tell my friends about your work?

My camera is broken, can you fix it?

My daughter is beautiful, do you thind she could be a model?

You mean that I just can't copy my pictures at walmart, didn't I pay you for them?

Why do you charge so much for changing heads/eyes/smiles isn't it just a few mouse clicks?

Why should I pay you $ 100.00 for 7 pictures when I can get 49 pictures at Walmart for $ 12.95? (the anwser to that one is) Than you should go to Walmart.

Ah the dreaded portrait studio environment.

Time to start charging for your services rather then pieces of paper.....think about it and charge for the service and expertise vs the paper it gets printed on.

Thanks for the memories here.

This is tough, but my question is "How do I learn to see the contrast in the scene the way it will show in the image?". A more universal form might be " How do I learn to see the light?". It seems like I am always overlooking shadows that show up in the photograph as way too dark. I am beginning to see the dynamic range of light in a scene, but just barely.

Thanks.

One question I have is on "Exposure". I shoot 35mm film with one of two cameras, both Pentax. One is an old manual and the other has automatic metering system. With the manual I can set my exposure to what I think I want. With the auto I can't change it. I've heard that I can maybe fool it, but how?
This photo came out darker than I wanted so I had to play with it.

Another question is on film. Can I achive the same look in pictures if I use store bought film compared to professional film?

Paul
