Lighting Equipment Suggestion

i asked this same question to my good friend and great photographer johnny olsen and he said he was an available light photographer.

i became an available light photographer from then on.

for about 20 minutes.

buy profoto gear. it has the most consistent light, best quality light and has a short flash duration.

Here is my story:

Once upon a time I owned two WL-800's, two AB800's and a AB400 and was pretty happy,

Then I attended a Rolando Workshop and saw what the Hensels could do and fell in love with their Beauty Dish.

So, I sold off all my five AB/WL lights and bought SIX Integra Pro 500's, since I was pretty happy with my Pocket Wizards, I stayed with them and six Integra Pros cost the same as five Pro-Plus's, hense I did not opt for the Pro's (plus they did NOT have the new and improved Controls out at that time).

They are great lights and I am Shooting happily ever after...

Thank you all for your kind suggestions...I haven't purchased the lights yet due to a setback but when I will be getting me a pair of Hensels.

I agree with RFS. I have a friend of mine who bought a very expensive Hensel lighting kit, and he shoots just as sucky today, as he did when he shot with Alien Bees!

So here's a similar and, hopefully related, question:

Does the availability of rental sway your decision one way or another?

For example, I'm in Chicago. For me to purchase Hensel, using the consideration above, would be a mistake. My best choices would be, in order: Profoto (easily rentable), Broncolor (not as good a selection, but still easy), Speedotron (rentable just about everywhere).

Obviously you can't own every piece of lighting or light modifiers you would like and being able to rent to fill needs is important.

Rental availability should definitely be a consideration to a pro.
