Looking for recommendations from those Canon Users out there for a really solid canon(or compatible) telephoto lens for shooting glamour.

My budget's in the $1,000.00 range. Anyone have one that they are crazy about? Why?

Appreciate any input,
Tim

Sorry Tim, I can't help you. I really like my 17-85 IS but I'm sure there is better. But, I was wondering where are some new shots of Shawna. Your work with her is truly breathtaking!!!

Sorry no telephoto recomendation here but I like the 100mm, f2.8 prime lens.

If I had to choose a telephoto lens there would be two, 24-70mm f2.8L, or the 70-200mm f2.8 IS.

The 85 1.2 is amazing but brutal in price but the reviews of the 1.8 are also excellent and it is much more affordable.

I would suggest looking at the 135mm f2L. Superb lens, capable of sharp images at any aperture, supports awesomely shallow depth of field when wide open, lovely soft bokeh.

shot with the 135mm f2L on a 5D.

The Lensplay database rates this lens extremely highly.

If i had a thousand bucks lying around to spend on some new glass there would no problem making a choice: Without hesitation, it would be Canon's 135mm prime, f/2 L. Not only the ultimate portrait lens, but a damn good glamour lens as well.

If you're not shooting with a full-frame sensor, however, let me say that I also love my 85mm f/1.8 prime. The price tag on the L version is too steep for me and, frankly, I don't see all that much difference.

My favorite lens for glamour is the 70-200 IS f2.8 but that's out of your reach.

So this would be my $1000,00 set:

28-75 f2.8 Tamron
135mm f2.8 Soft focus Canon
85mm 1.8 Canon

The problem with 28-75 and below 100mm is that if you want to get nice DOF or in other words only your model sharp and the rest in beautiful bokeh you need long lenses.

The 70-200 is probably 'the' glamour/portrait lens, mainly due to the flexibility it offers. The 100/2.8 macro is cheap and amazingly sharp, but it's still a prime so it slows you down when it matters.
