White Lighting Power packs ...

It looks like the Buff empire is expanding once again. Not only is he now doing ring flashes in the mono line, but also is introducing two new power pack units (1250 ws and 2500ws) at what look like very low prices. Here is a link to a post by Paul Buff giving the specs:

It will be interesting to see how the market reacts to these new units.

Also of interest is his comments on why he can sell power pack units at so much less than the competition. What do you think about his argument?

$299 for the flash head...hummmmm...thinks buy flash head and see about getting wired for a dynalite pack...yeahyeah... course the ab800 one is perfict with the vagabond as a location light....

I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you saying that $299 for a ringlight flash head for a power pack unit is too expensive, or what?

hell no...I'm thinking 299$ rock espicially if I can get it wired to work with my Dynalite packs...The Calumet/bowens ring flash is $900....

FWIW Buff's equipment is very well designed and could even be considered over-engineered IMHO. Out of all the use (and abuse) that my equipment has been put through, it's still on the original flash tubes and has never required any maintenance other than to replace a blown fuse one time. Didja ever hear of anyone ragging on Buff's equipment? Not a commonplace event.

Hey, I like kibbitzing with the guys (and girl) down at the local camera store as much as the next guy, but ... who can argue with Buff's success in their strategies (which have been going on for a couple of decades, now)?

Can't argue with succes! I've been using Buff equipment for 20 years. Had to replace a flash tube a couple of times, but that is normal wear and tear. They're like a timex watch. They just keep on flashing.
