I am looking for advice from you Pro's. I am a newbie that looking to upgrade equipment to a 30D. I found a place online, seems reputable, that is selling the 30D with 2 lens and some other accessories for less than a grand. They said it was not refurb, but it was grey market. What does that mean to the end user. The price is right and would like to buy other stuff with savings. Please give a newbie a hand.

Beware. I only buy from reputable sources. I've heard too many horror stories. The reputable sources sell grey market items, but not at that price.

Run away fast! If a deal is too good to be true, It almost always is. That deal is too incredible be be remotely true. You will be scammed if you continue with this dealer. Unless you have money to throw away, stay with the known discount dealers like B&H or Adorama.

Cheers,
LSC

Thank you so much RVMD. That link was a godsend. I can't believe a storefront with as much crap as Royal is still in business. My next call will be to B&H. Again thanks a lot.

Glad to help. I've probably spent 20 - 30K at B&H over the years, no problems at all!

I bought a grey market d100...when I ordered it I explicitly asked if it was grey market and they said no. After ordering it and looking around more, I found out it was grey market. When I called back they still said it wasn't and that Nikon-USA would fix it...wrong...I would have to send it over-seas for Nikon to look at this camera, that is the message I got from nikon-usa.

Thank God nothing has gone wrong with the camera short of dust on the ccd...I can handle that.

FWIW, Canon will honor their warranty regardless of whether it's grey or not. All they ask for is the receipt. In this era of globalization, you'd think everyone would do the same.

Remember when buying "grey market" [regardless of the source], some manufacturers WILL NOT service the equipment. Nikon will definetley not even look at grey market. Don't know about Canon or other manufacturers.
