This may seem a tad foolish, but I need advice or a method on how to focus a Canon EOS rebel xt for very low light pictures when I do not use the flash

Is there a different focus screen available

You can't see squat through the finder, and there is no infinity position or focus distances on the EPS 18-55mm lense barrel

We for one thing the 18-55 kit lens is not that easy a lens to focus in low light. If you're not using a flash, I assume you're on a tripod. So if carrying a tripod, you can also carry a small pocket flash light or a white card, or something that is contrasty that you can put at the area where you want to focus. Focus on that, half depress to lock the focus, then shoot. It works for me all the time. Usually, though with the right lens, there is no problem if focusing in low light. I often use my Sigma 70-200 in low light situations and since it is a 2.8 if focuses almost instantly.

Get a flsh with an AF assist beam, like the 380ex, set your exposure manually, and use electrical or gaf-tape over the flash bulb. Just watch out it doesn't get too hot.
