Gray card use in the studio

Hi all,

Just curious....does anyone use a gray card in their studio or with studio lights rather than just taking an ambient reading with a light meter? If so, how do you use your light meter to read accurately off of the gray card? I normally just take an ambient reading by firing the strobes and having the model hold the meter but I'd like to see if I could use a gray card somehow (my camera meter is broke so I can't read it with my camera meter). Any thoughts?
