Requesting a little advice on rim lights

I will be shooting a young lady in her prom dress this week. Because of the size room, I will only be able to use rim lighting from one side. So does rim lighting work better on the same side as the main light or the opposite side?

I think rim light usually works best on the opposite side.

Rim lighting on the opposite side for the most part, seperates the opposite side light fall off and gives an appearance of dimension.
