Anyone tried these and have any recommendations (pro or con)?

I have two of the medium sized Softlighters. I use them all the time. They can give almost the same quality of light as a softbox (when using the front panel).

They can be shoot thru umbrella's, bounce umbrella's or used as a softbox.

Easier to set up than a softbox, packs well in a large suitcase.

I highly recommend them.

I have 2 of the 60" Softlighters and agree with Rich on the product's good qualities- soft, pleasing light, relatively cheap, quite portable, and very, very easy to set up.

FWIW- At least with the 60" model, the spines(?) of the umbrella seems somewhat delicate. I've been using mine for a while now and haven't had any problems, but I've always taken care when setting them up and taking them down.
