The running critique thread ....

Well in keeping with the other running thread (that seems stalled right now), here is a different type of running thread. Here are the rules.

1. Look at the photo posted by the last person on the thread.
2. Give a critique of this photo --- good or bad.
3. Include a photo of your own (you must do this or be deleted) --- (Photo may not be a nude).

Now the next poster will be critiquing your photo and leaving their own for critique. Resist the urge to critique the same photo twice. It will happen by accident, of course, when one or more people post very close to each other. So if you see that has happened try to respond to the person who has not yet gotten a critique.

Jayson, I like B&W for evening out uneven skin tones and focusing on the lines of the image, in this case the model's face. What is it that you are trying to tell me with this pic? I am going to guess. You like the lighting, the simple lines and expression of the model tell me that this is either a good snapshot or an intimate portrait. A piece of white cardboard to the left would open up the model's eyes and add that sparkle. She is outside a door, and the sky is overcast... where do we go from here?

Thank you for the reply, I tend to look for an emotion or attatude in the image more simple lighting and posing...

As far as this (your) image I would have lost the Bottle and straightened the fingers on her right hand...But still a romantic image...

Over all I like the image except the extreme tilt bothers me. I keep waiting for the wine to fall over. Another small nit pick is that on my monitor the image seems a tad soft. I love the way you have used the available light.

Here’s what I’m learning from my betters here: I need to pay more detailed attention to hair. Earrings either well shown or not at all. Cleavage is great, but necklace seems not to distract. Her smile is nice, but is tongue over lower teeth? Would like to see her hand and not cropped.

Nice quick thinking, Mark. I would have cropped to move her into the right 1/3 line and smoothed out the vein on her right arm.

You guys have ripped my model shots completely apart, Showing some of them would be booring to you all.

Here's my first critique on G1...

What I like:

I like the subject - he adds a gritty quality that opposes the instrument. Your lighting is dark -- but clearly you were going for that. Your shadows have good detail.

What I would change:

The composition is cluttered. The motion detector behind the keys and the music stands on the right edge could be eliminated to clean up the image. I like the purple wrap and would keep it. If this is a cover shot or announcement, I'd keep it as composed, but unless you need room for a title or other text across the top, the image seems low to me and I'd crop it to move the subject higher.

Obviously I know this model well. What I don't like is the expression, she looks mad. Second, is the "canoeing" in the eyes, the irises are floating in a white canoe. While this is ok when models have larger, photogenic eyes, it's borderline in this image of Holley because the top of the irises is clipped a bit. THe irises also too centered for me.

Moving on, she looks like she's missing her right shoulder (camera left), that bugs me a bit too. While shoulders should be tilted and not squared, in this type of straight-on image I'd like to see both shoulders. That's my two cents worth.

Now here's mine for critique, I have my bullet proof vest on, so chip away, thanks, rg sends!
