A lot of photogs on G1 get tired of shooting with the same backgrounds ... and are on limited budgets and shooting in their garage or bedroom, so I set out to see what I could get at a local mall for under $50. My test subject for this experiment is Dallas area promotional model Karen Hernandez.
Background #1 - $20 bamboo curtain from Burlington Coat Factory. I attached it to two light stands and placed it in a doorway. Lighting was one beautydish next to my camera, one strobe as a hairlight -- above and behind the bamboo.
Background #2 - $20 decorative plastic shower curtain fom Bed, Bath and Beyond. I attached it to my background stand and placed it in front of a large window. Lighting was one beautydish next to my camera, a large softbox to model left, and a strobe as a hairlight.
I still need to work out some bugs when it comes to my hair lighting on blondes, but for under $50 I was able to find two fun backgrounds and spice up my shoot! And ... since I bought both backgrounds for $10 under my budget, I used the left over $10 to buy Karen a few beers after the shoot (professional courtesy)!
