With the growing popularity of MySpace it's promotional value seems to be growing by leaps and bounds as well. Models, musicians, artists, retailers and businesses of all types have found it to be a marketing and networking dream. It's 100% customizable and best of all it's free! I have had a MySpace page since nobody knew what it was and I have found it to be a nice tool for keeping in touch with overseas freinds and a place to meet some interesting people. I have 37 people on my friends list and that puts my network up to 84,925,344 people. That is a lot of potential for contacts!
So, I am curious if anyone uses it for fun, promotion, networking or whatever and what kind of successes you have had with it or you think it was a waste of your time.

Here is mine.

I have had a myspace account for a while now and I have found it to be worthless. I know other people that had an account and they closed theres because of no activity. I checked for any local girls that had some modeling images in there profile and when I go and contact them the message just sits there for weeks. It never gets opened. So now I just pop in and check it on the weekend.

I have a myspace account too, but I didn't really use it for myself at first. I first opened the account to help promote my friend Martina. Now, SHE has tons of friends there, and it really helps her in her contests and modeling stuff.

I get all kinds of models sending requests to shoot. I am finding better then the otehr site for getting not only clients(paying) but also TFP models.

Of course I promote my photography on it a lot.

MySpace can no doubt be a great marketing tool. But the majority of people who use it seem to have no sense about what makes a MySpace site useful. The majority of sites that I see are almost unreadable. They will use some super ornate background and the text that they place on the site is almost unreadable against the weird backgrounds that are chosen. So if you want to profit from a MySpace site, be sure to choose a fairly neutral background and make sure that all your text will show up and be easy to read on the background. Also don't put automated music or sound since that can be a no-no if someone is browsing in an office, or the baby is a asleep, etc. Use common sense and make the site look professional rather than like something from a psychedelic dream.

Also, don't use animated gifs at all. You're just making more stuff flash and its annoying and distracting and spells Amateur in big letters.

A good example of a well designed MySpace site designed for marketing is Rolando's site:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=26405979

The other thing you must keep track of his people who leave comments or attach themselves as friends. They can post huge photos that will make your site scroll way off to the right, and you usually don't want that. Also be sure to keep off any "friends" and "comments" that might dilute your marketing message.

Cheers,
rfs

I love Myspace, in fact, go here to view mine: http://www.myspace.com/glamourphotographer

I hate to say this, but Myspace is by far the best model recruiting site ever! It beats everyone hands down for the value! I get more model shoot requests, without asking for them, then I have days in a year.

How can you beat a site that is totally free and has that many eyeballs that can see your work for free? While my Myspace needs some updating, it's amazing that it has forums, bulletin systems, etc., and you can even upload your images for free, while having the traffic they do.

Every model and photographer should be on every site that is free, that is viral marketing at it's finest. Just my thoughts, thanks, rg sends! (BTW--You can go to "edit options" and enter your Myspace URL and it will show in your G1 profile!)

I've just recently started to step up my myspace page. In the past myspace was really slow, buggy etc.. seems to be a bit better now.

I really love the look and content of the other pages shown here! Guess I better get to work!

I've just recently started my MySpace page as a way to market to local people. So far it's not turned up any new models, but it's only been up abouta week or so. I'll have to take a look at some of the sites posted here for ideas when I get home from work.
