I need to paint a model for an shoot. I've been told to use acrylic craft paint in my air brush but worry it will stain her when it dries.

What do you guys recommend I use airbrushing a girl gold.??

I used tempera paint the last time I painted a model. I don't know if you can put it through an air brush, I used a bristle brush.

Acrylic metallic GOLD paint shouldn't stain, but it's not my area of expertise. Some acrylic paints do use stains as the coloring and would stain. I've never used it, but it ought to work, and is probably less likely to cause allergy issues than latex paint.

I've used latex paints with some success, but it takes a considerable about of time for the paint to cure, and it sticks to itself if its not fully cured. Limited color range, too, and I have NO idea whether you could air-brush it or not.

For a real metallic sheen, Mehron (and I suppose others) sells a powdered make-up that, when mixed with their liquid make-up base, can be applied to give a not-too-far from gold leaf effect - i.e., a gilded subject. It comes in gold, silver, copper, bronze, and probably a few other shades. Probably can't be sprayed on, though. And it's designed to be a cosmetic.

I seem to recall some recent work posted here that was done with temperas. (Not by RobArtLyn.) Look back a couple, three months.

Good luck, have fun. Looking forward to seeing your results.

Go to the store and get some paint and put it on your body. You wouldn't ask her to do something you wouldn't do would you?

Try at least three spots about 4 inches square, and remove them, one at one hour, one at two hours and one at three hours and see if they stain. They likely won't, but now you have proof you have done the due diligence and she will probably thank you for making her feel at ease.

Update: Mehron powder is the best way to go. I contacted several stage MUAs and was told to use makeup as paint could very easily make her sick.

Seems it clogs the pores and prevents sweating. (you don't breath through your skin, check snopes or mythbusters)

My MUA said I should be able to spray her gold (metallic no less) for about $15 worth of this stuff.

and yes I will paint a part of me to make sure it acts the way we think it does.
