Are you really happy with that image, taken in the midst of trees, with a model in a bikini, and ...
a surfboard?
Perhaps you didn't notice the water that is directly behind her. The trees were located at the waters edge and reflected in the water which also kept the bright afternoon sun off of the model. We much prefered this to, studio pictures with paper backgrounds.
To answer your question, I would be much more happy with the image had it been done at a beach with white sand and blue water.
Nearest beach from here is 4 hours away but we don't have that kind of budget for the calendar.

I'm still looking for the water, but I'm kinda slow this time of year.
If you couldn't get to a beach, why not style the shot with something more appropriate for the setting? That was my point. Personally, I would be embarassed to publish this shot anywhere. I looks like a bikini clad model with a surfboard in the middle of a forest. But that's just me I know. I can be a little weird I guess.
We also have plans to shoot a bikini model with a motorcycle without any water in that picture, another shoot with a model posed with a bright yellow and black Dodge truck without any water and one with a Jeep with the top removed and the surfboard inside leaned against the roll bar.
By the way this picture that was posted was not the one chosen for the calendar.

When I saw that photo my first thought was "I wonder what ole Dave would say" and sure enough the next post was true to form..
LOL
I'm 8 hours from the nearest beach and I feel your pain. My solution is they make really big skateboards that are big enough to pose a model with.
I do love her eyes in this shot, and her pose is good..

That would be another possible photo prop to use but would still require a good location to shoot that at. After going through three different years of Hooters calendars that I've collected I could see that in addition to swimming pools, lakes and the ocean, they also used boats, water falls, Hooters restaurants, water fountains, cars, hammocks, wooden fences, surfboards, tall grass, large rocks and even lots of trees. We are also considering a sand volleyball court. Still have more shooting to do, so I guess we will see what can be found for locations and props.
