Yes it does go "everywhere" I heard that from the girls.
The best thing to do is not to change lenses while out there. I used a 70-200 the whole afternoon and before I put it back in my bag I brushed everything off with a soft paint brush.
Sand likes to stick to the rubber parts, so the weather seal around the lens was loaded.
