STOLEN artwork!

BOYCOTT THE BELMONT LOUNGE NYC! THEY'RE A BUNCH OF THIEVES!!!

My artwork was STOLEN while on exhibit there. After I was given the run around by the incompetent staff and IGNORED by GUY JACOBSON, the owner, I went to small claims court and WON.

That was a YEAR ago. THEY STILL HAVEN'T PAID ME!

Is this the sign of a reputable business man??? Or a shameless immoral scumbag? I'm just a poor artist trying to create my work and live my life as best as I can. A lot of time, money, and sweat went into creating the pieces that were taken. This BUM knows he hasn't done right by me!

DON'T GIVE HIM ANOTHER DIME OF YOUR MONEY!!!

But do give him your 2 cents! Let this bastard know what a piece of GARBAGE you think he is. Feel free to contact him day or night.

Re: STOLEN artwork!

Collecting a judgement against a business can be a real exercise in frustration.

In some states, you can sue the person responsible, and if a judgement is granted, their car's registration can be put in limbo. Gives you a little leverage, and them a little incentive to settle. Don't know what NY's laws are... it's too late anyway. Shoulda... woulda... coulda...

But you'd be wise to carefully consider what you put in public forums. There are things called slander and libel...

Besides, this just really isn't an appropriate place for this stuff.

Re: STOLEN artwork!

Sorry for your frustration. I admire your work a great deal, and it amazes me that any business could be so cavalier about such a theft.

But heed Mr. Nowak's advice.

Good luck, Mark.

Re: STOLEN artwork!

I'm not sure what was said that is slander or libel. The case is over and the defendant was found to be guilty and owe Mark money.

Sucks that you have to go through all you went through only to have nothing to show for it. Sounds like he is a scumbag.

Lessee, you don't seem to know what libel or slander is, but you call someone names and make disparaging comments about him in a public forum based on hearsay... Interesting... Know any good lawyers?

As far as I can tell, no one was found "guilty" of anything, it looks to me like a company was found liable for some artwork, a civil action, not criminal...

Re: STOLEN artwork!

Mark Anthony,

Getting mad and posting stuff here won't solve anything.

If you will read the list of penalties, you have the opportunity to hit them where it really hurts, cost them more than the $1200 owed to you AND collect your money all in one action.

Under penalty "d" you can take your judgement and failure to pay to the alcoholic licenseing board and have the ability to serve alcohol revoked until payment is made. Bet that will get a bar's attention!

Cheers

Re: STOLEN artwork!

Oh, thanks for so kindly correcting me, Al. I used the word "guilty" instead of "found liable", my apologies. I still don't find anything in the above post that would cause Mark to be "found liable" in a court. He called the guy a scumbag. Sounds like he is. You say it's hearsay while he is the one directly involved in this. If the guy isn't paying what he was told to by the courts then he is a scumbag.

Of course I guess that I shouldn't go by the definitions of words and should let other people tell me what they mean.
