In 2 weeks time I have set up a shoot with a mature (40+) potential model who was told that she should have Lifestyle images in her portfolio. She's asked me to do some with/for her but I can't say that I really know what the parameters are for this genré. Can anyone give me some idea or perhaps some links to images that would illustrate this? Thanks.
Richard W.
I just thought of something...how does this differ from Glamour, Fashion and Stock?

Reason: Additional stuff...
Re: What constitutes "Lifestyle" in terms of images?
Hey Richard, I wish I could help you define what "Lifestyle" photography is or help you with the differences with the types of photography you mentioned, but I'm drawing a blank as well. My best advice is to bite the bullet and ask the model what exactly she is talking about, and if you don't want to seem ignorant, ask her to send you a few examples in the form of a magazine or website. I hope this helps.

Re: What constitutes "Lifestyle" in terms of images?
Hi Richard, Glamour generally features the model in some sort of “sexy” situation, but it is defiantly all about the model. Fashion is all about featuring something you are trying to sell (clothes, accessories…etc.) in a “current” or “fashionable” way, not necessarily the model (note: in many fashion shots currently in magazines, the models face is in shadow). Stock can be anything that is sold as stock (from someone holding a clipboard to just shooting the clipboard alone…etc.). Lifestyle is shooting someone in a day to day function but featuring the model (walking a dog, hailing a cab) at their best. You will see on many model composites, a headshot on the front and 3 lifestyle shots on the back. What you have to keep in mind is that lifestyle look requirements can be very regional. Here in the central Florida area that means the Disney look (wholesome, clean, fresh…etc.). Also, you wouldn’t necessarily shoot a “playing in the snow” shot for someone who is marketing themselves in Miami.
Hope that helps,
Darren

Re: What constitutes "Lifestyle" in terms of images?
My thanks to all 3 of you for this. "Day to Day" really does seem to sum it up as Glamour and Fashion are more 'make believe'.
As to what *I'd* be wearing, driving and doing if my salary went up tenfold...
1) Wrangler jeans and Costco shirt
2) Extended cab Toyota 4x4 with the bucket seats
3) Attending each and *every one* of Rolando's workshops
...but while (1) is my current mode of dress and (2) may be attainable, (3) is a pipedream cause I'm **never** going to see my salary increase that much. LOL

See, you've started defining your "life style." Now, shooting the images you'd use to sell that same stuff to someone else are all it takes...
As for the tenfold salary increase... What, no mega millions lottery in your province?
Re: What constitutes "Lifestyle" in terms of images?
Yeah, but that's my lifestyle...not very glamourous or feminine is it? I guess I'll have to send a query to the model to see what kind of lifestyle she envisions. I just hope it's not High Living...I don't have the props for that.
And as for the multimillion lotteries here...yup, we've got them. I just don't seem to win them though.
One good thing though of being Canadian...no taxes on Lottery winnings.
