I don't shoot many guys as most know but had an opportunity to work with Matt yesterday and wanted to share a few images...







Matt is a new and upcoming model and as you might have guessed, runs track in college...

These images clearly show your range has no boundaries. Lighting men and women is way different but you nail them both. Thanks for sharing something different.

Great work. Some have a little too much light fall-off for my taste, but the lighting is great for what you were going for!

It's just my opinion, but I think the second needed a bit of fill on the shadow side, as his broad and open smile makes this a bit more of a casual shot. OTOH, the deep shadows work well in the third shot (IMO). However, there, the model "hunches" up a bit and the suitcoat pulls up in the back. Not too badly, though. My favorites are the first and third. Good model.

I did shoot it with fill and it does work, I just liked the contrasty lighting that we were going for in the set. I went ahead and shot 1/2 with a portrait feel and the rest with some harsher and more dramatic lighting...Thanks for commenting...

One of the most difficult things with males, especially in suits, it to make the clothing appear smooth. In the first image special care needs to be taken so the front of the shirt is not wrinkled. I realize the "style" nowadays is loose, but when that is seen in portraits it is something our eye keeps going back to, just as collars that are not neat around the neck.

If clothing is a bit too loose, close pins or some other clips can be used in the back to tighten it. Another thing that can be done is to fold the sleeves of a coat in such a way that they do not appear as full. It is sort of difficult to describe, but you just fold an pinch the material until the looseness is less noticeable.

As I say, I realize styles for me are looser, but in the first image, the pants are too low and loose in the waist for a business suit,in my opinion.

I agree with much of what you said had this set of images been a "portrait" session...which it was not.

Had it been...A.) The suit would have been wrinkle free...and B.) I would have used lighting suitable for portraiture...

You are correct, todays style IS different and our goal on this shoot was for dramatic lighting and leaning towards a more fashionesque delivery...not portraiture. As for the wrinkles, that was intentional...I wanted the contrast of light and shadows and they provided just that...

I am not a real fashion photographer, so I am asking... This would work for a fashion shot? What limited experience I have in that area, the client is somewhat finicky on neat fitting, clean lines in the clothing.

I keep looking because I really like that third shot. Could you tell me some details - what lighting ratio, how far from the wall, single light + reflector? It's a really solid shot, sir.
