Which one?

Working on a couple of shots from back in December. I like the color one but there is something about black and white. What do ya'll think?

Re: Which one?

I like the color one better. I think the main reasons is that the B/W just doesnt have the same natural feel as the color shot. Perhaps this is due to the B/W conversion method used.

Cheers,
rfs

Re: Which one?

I sor of gree with Rogerm he color image ha nice contrasting colors where as the BW suffers from too much midtones and not enough contrast. I think bw works the best when there is good balance of tones, over obundance of midtones just kill the quality.
Northern Arizona, Petrified National Forest, portions of it look like moonscape.

Re: Which one?

personally, i think the image is a bit too flat to be very effective in monochrome.

Re: Which one?

Thanks all, Hey Jimmy. When you say a bit too flat, are you talking about needed more contrast, depth of field, separation from subject to the background? What type of photo should I be looking at for monochrome? thanks man...

a bit more contrast. not sure if its the original shot or the conversion that leaves it a bit flat as a B&W but most of the image is all in the mid-ranges.

Re: Which one?

Good catch. I actually reduced the contrast before converting to monochome. I didn't like the look of the conversion so I started playing with it. I guess I went too far... thanks again Jimmy.
