Question Image pixel dimensions for new portfolio system

I read in the sticky post... "Upload flies no larger than 600 pixels on the longest side, though it will take some larger files."

I just tried to upload an 800x532 70KB image and the new portfolio system resized it to 600x399 32KB. I'm asking for clarification... what does "... though it will take some larger files" mean?

In case it matters, I'm a Glamour1 Lifetime member.

It resizes, what it calls the "large" image to a max of 600 pixels on the longest size. That is what you see in the normal view mode of the image. But if you click on the image to view it in the lightbox, then you will see the original image size. Here is a screen shot of the difference in what you might see:

The first image is and example of the "resized image" and the second photo is an example of the original as uploaded before resizing.

There are pluses and minuses to uploading with a pixel size of greater than 600 pixels high. On a 1024x768 browser, people will not be able to see the full image without scrolling, so they can never see the image all at once.

If you want to use the larger (original image), then just remove the part of the url that the system gives you when you use the "New Portfolio" option on the right), that says "/large" and you'll get the full sized image (and complaints from those of the 50-65% of us who use 1024x768 resolution monitors).

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
rfs

Re: Image pixel dimensions for new portfolio system

Thanks for explaining that. I wonder... what is the max pixel dimension for the original image?

Re: Image pixel dimensions for new portfolio system

I don't know what dimensions the system is currently set to check for as a high limit. But the filesize for lifers is 375k. So you could experiment with large dimensions, but keeping he file size below that limit and see what happens. Again, keep in mind that over half of the members will not be able to view all at once any image higher than 600 pixels, and usually anything wider than about 750 pixels. Also when you post a wide image it totally messes up the browsing experience for the more than one half of us that are at 1024x768 resolution for our monitors.

Cheers,
rfs
