Is now a good time to buy a new Canon Camera...

I am selling 2 of my 20D bodies to upgrade to a 5D... Is now a good time or should I hold off a couple months? anyone hear about any new updates to the 1D anytime soon?

I just did the same to purchase a second 5D about 3 months ago. Got $900 a piece for them and the grip. I am thinking that the 20D's will further decrease in resale value over time.

Also, I am thinking that the release of the XTi (400D) at 10.2mpix at ~$800 will probably drive many on a budget to those.

I think the 20D is an excellent camera though and would still like to have one.

Just some thoughts..

Andrew

Photokina is less than a month away. Doing anything now is "risky" since we don't know what will happen. The 1D line is due for an upgrade...so whether you want the latest-n-greatest or just a good deal on a used one...you might want to wait.

Re: Is now a good time to buy a new Canon Camera...

I dunno. This old fart, mostly retired shooter is still shooting with a 10D and loving the results I get. Does an 'older' camera suddenly stop working when a new model comes out? Is there really a vital need to have the newest and hotest camera available? My print buyers don't seem to care what camera I shoot with, they are just interested in the results. So far th 30x40 prints I've produced have been satisfactory, at les the checks cleared and no one has asked for a refund.

Anyone interested in sending me a non deductable donation so I can shoot with the hotest and newest camera available?

well, ya ole' fart, you'd probly like the 5D for a couple of reasons: the full frame sensor (so your glass acts like its supposed to) and the big screen on the back cuz being old and all, your eyesight probly aint what it once was.

Yes! Hurry up and do it before the new 10MP cameras (canon 400D and
Nikon D80) start hitting the street!
