Male Models....

I have been asked by an old H.S. friend to build his portfolio, but I am stuck for anything - why? I have never photographed a male subject before. Here are some things : he could pass for cousin of the gotti's, with the spiked black hair, etc. He rides a motorcycle. Any suggestions where I can start readin up on things or finding posing, etc. I am going to go to B&N to start looking at magazines...

Re: Male Models....

I had a shoot with a Male model this weekend, and I was stuck too. Not really sure what to tell him, plus he was new. He wants to hire me again for another shoot in June. I'm going to BN too.

Re: Male Models....

Here is a link for a couple of male model friends...I think these guys are great..
not that it is an instruction on posing, but you might be able to steal some ideas.
http://www.michael-burns.org/
http://www.modelmayhem.com/member.php?id=73965

the first one, has more fashion shots. He's more the italian type you have. His site is somewhat hard because he is a model and photog..but the italian guy is him! he has great shots!!
the second has some plain commercial images that I think are very good. Some ideas for manly posing for a commercial setting.

I can link some more if you wish. but the 2 I gave you pretty much cover both ends of the spectrum.

Also, One of rolandos videos "glamour made simple" covers a few little differences in shooting males vs. females (he talks about the soft skin tone in female images vs the rough manly skin of a male.

anyhooo...I hope this helps a little.

Re: Male Models....

if you're going to shoot full or three-quarter body shots, you might consider this: girls look sexy when they're making "S" curves with their bodies. With men, you want to make "C's"

Re: Male Models....

Its much easier to tell a male model to take his shirt off. That's something of a joke from the guys at Supershoot LV last year. It was almost the first thing the photogs ask them.

If they have thier clothes on its general fashion and letting them pose naturally should work fine. If they are showing skin, use your lighting to accentuate muscle definition.

Here's a couple from SSLV staring GG's own Christian and Chris.
