Locations, locations, locations...

I am wondering how one goes about finding luxury locations to shoot. I am thinking about a nice upscale home with a nice luxury bath and nice pool area. I am tired of being couped up in the studio all of the time, but if I am going to move all of the stuff I need I want to shoot in some good surroundings that will produce nice images.
I see a lot of images that involve these upscale kinds of venues, but I have no idea of how to go about locating them in my area.

Re: Locations, locations, locations...

I would grab a camera with a normal to wide lens and start driving around, stopping often, and shooting. Bring a recorder to note where you can park, and how easy/hard it would be to bring in lights, etc. You might also go onto the net and look at the local chamber of commerce web site, as they often post scenic pictures of there area/town.

Re: Locations, locations, locations...

Look at local hotels on the net. Not motel 6's... Call, and ask to talk to the people who are able to make the decision to let you shoot. All they can say is no...
I've had realatively good success with this approach, and sometimes it's free!
Best wishes!

And similar to hotels, look up some bed & breakfasts in your area. I shot at a really nice one in Knoxville (I saw you're in NC, so you might not be too far from there, depending on exactly where you are).

Other than that (and I'm only half-joking here), make friends with rich people. I tried "cold calling" some people whose houses I liked, though (living in a small town, it's not hard to find out who lives where), and so far I've struck out each time. Maybe I shouldn't have started out telling them I wanna shoot a scantily clad woman in their house, huh?

Re: Locations, locations, locations...

I have had good success with asking people to use their boat...In San Diego a few years ago I had a model I wanted to do swimwear on a boat. I went to a Dock or pier and there was a broker selling boats. Told him what I wanted and he let me use a 50f power boat and a 45ft sail boat. I gave him a few images of the model and the boats...He called me back in two weeks for me to come back and do a paid shoot...He sold both boats useing the images to advertise...Try a boat show...Have not had much luck on houses...
