One of my latest posts had a strange response. Most of the responses were through email and PM.

I had several very interesting comments and questions, which I answered. If they had been on the forum I think it would have been a great thread.

Has somehting happened recently that keeps people from posting?

I agree with you there. I liked being able to go straight to the forums instead of the past 24 or 48 hours. It was easier to navigate.

...do we need to go back to putting them in the critique forum???

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe I'm missing something, but I thought that was how it was supposed to be done. When I see images in the Main Community Forum I only comment on images when I feel very compelled. If it's in the Critique forum, I'll try to find something to say...because they're clearly asking for a critique.

And Dolph, I hear what you're saying about putting in the creative effort...but please don't lose sight of the fact that many of us put as much creative effort into getting what you would call a boring shot as you put into one of your own shots.

Hi Don,

I am guilty as charged. I've become a lurker unless I see something I really like. My mother always told me," If you can't say something nice...be honest." Unfortunely she never taught me how to be tactful. LOL
I'm still not good enough to suggest a better way of doing things. What I would like is a post of HOW to do things. Show how you lit something so others can try it and learn from it. JMO

Bear in mind, I've been a photographer for more than 50 years, am a retired commercial shooter with years of commercial photo publications and artistic exhibitions in about 15 states and 4 countries, in addition to having taught photograpohy for many years and having been declared an "expert photography witness" in Federal Court. Not meaning to blow my own horn, but just to set a context for the last critique I offered on this forum.

Someone posted a really crappy image. I replied with a lengthy and thought out critique, pointing out a number of problems with the image and sugestions on how to correct the problems. I also carefully pointed out what little was good about the image. In accord with the established 'rules' of the board, I posted an image to support my critique. The original poster replied by essentially suggesting that I suck swamp gas, that I was full of [censored] and had no idea what a was talking about and by posting a photo I was trying to hijack his thread.

Frankly, I don't need that aggravation! I have not posted a critique since and more than likely will not post one again, other than an occasional attaboy. Unless asked, I'll leave the 'teaching' to others, those who might have more patience than I.

Doug, I'd take one of your "lengthy and thought out critique, pointing out a number of problems with the image and sugestions on how to correct the problems," critiques any time you're willing to offer it on one (or more) of my posts.

Don't let the idiots get to you who can't take critiques and suggestions as constructively as they are given. Some of us like to hear what we're doing wrong and how to fix it.

Sometimes it's just better to sit back, watch and listen. Especially when those posting have more knowledge and experience.
Lately with things that are happening around me here, it's better to keep my mouth shut so someone doesn't take anything the wrong way. I'm sure we all get into those times where we would rather just look and listen.
Besides, when I don't have anything new to post, I feel guilty about saying what I like or don't like.

A simple model pose on a seamless will NOT get a response from me.
I look for creativity in the styling, props, concept, lighting, etc. Especially if it is out of the norm.

[/ QUOTE ]

not to take away from the images you posted but photography that includes a humourous "hook" or "story" or a fetish niche (as in the images you posted in your next reply) isn't, generally, the genre of photography this site is, for the most part, dedicated to.

glamour photography often and simply *is* a model posed on a seamless or in a location that is little more than a pretty backdrop to the model. there ARE plenty of books (i have more than a few of them) which include plenty of models on nothing more than a seamless that are, in reality, little more than images that showcase the model, the MUAs and/or stylists, and the shooter's ability to light and frame that model.

Well said Jimmy...I am a fan of Tims work and I think his creativity needle is off the charts and I like most of what he shoots, but it really isn't glamour. I do agree with his assessment of planning and getting out of the box...something I think we all struggle with ...pros or amateurs...

And before I get the "why can't I post any photo I want replies"...I wasn't saying anyone couldn't...I was just pointing out that this IS GARAGE GLAMOUR and the primary style is and SHOULD be glamour
