Robert, rarely do I literally hear my jaw pop from it beginning the progression to the floor. I just did upon seeing the exquisite image you posted. I've seen a lot of she-flesh paraded across this board, but that one takes my breath away. If I could think up and pull off....nee, execute...a shot like that, I'd be the happiest man alive.

Bravo, sir....bravo.

too much art today is in the ability to get into a child like mind of the perciever and convince them it's art. Call it hype. Unfortunatly time is the only true test of art. If it hangs or is collected 50 to three hundred years from now I think it's safe to call it art. . . but then. . .javascript:void(0)

I once saw a standard urinal in a frame and hangong on the wall of a high end gallery, with a pricetag of about $15,000. Another time I say 10 square foot ornate wood frame containing a canvas which had been painted flat white, as though with a paint roller, no texture, nothing. It looked like my livingroom wall, but it was hanging in one of the major Washington DC museums.

I've no idea what "art" is. I just know what makes sense to me and child like drawings do not.

.........if guess it's for sale. Doesn't means it's art, doesn't mean it's porn. Only that someone has determined it has [some sort of] value.

My answer would be the same as in an earlier post. Technical VS Emotional

[ QUOTE ]

His work literally looked like my 2 year old did it. it was in crayon and drawings of houses and birds stick figure people. Hell the sun was a circle with lines coming out of it. (we've all drawn it that at one time or other.)

[/ QUOTE ]

I once knew a person who was dogging "cubist" style artwork.
He also was derisive of some abstract artwork as well.
He said a child of four could do that...

"Maybe so," I said. "But can a 37 year old man do it?"

I gave him some paints, a 30x40 inch canvas, some brushes
and told him to come back with something comparable or better.

And if he cannot, then, shut up. (Yes, Master Po has to "get real" every
once in awhile.)

Art is the ability to reproduce a style, emotion, thought, image, and sound
with mastery of the medium.

The 37 year-old man discovered he did not have the skills to re-create this
"childrens" work or create a cubist piece of art.

Remember that when you hear people tell you anyone can p/u a camera and
do photography (of course you've spent years learning the ropes).
You may feel insulted too.

whats the difference between art and porn? art is out of focus and porn is in focus!

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought art was black and white and porn was color???

I guess if someone is willing to buy it it it is art.

This has become an ever present question with me.
I started doing photographs for pay, did that make me a professional photographer? It has grown a bit in the last year, but I want to keep progressing into producing artforms. Someone after seeing a few of my images said I was an artist. UUMM, I thought I was a photographer.
A year and half ago I took a drawing class, never drawing anything in my life. 4 months later I was commissioned to paint a mural on a 7ft by 17ft long wall.
People say it's a wonderfull piece of art. I wonder if it really is, or is it just a painting on a wall, the check cleared and everyone was happy.
The check cleared so it must have been art.
Art in my opinion is a perception of beauty or emotional rendering.

The below painting is one I did for my best friend who just passed away.
Is art, an emotional outpouring, or just another painting? I don't know, but I've had enough interest to put off seeling it and make limited edition prints for it. Unfortuneatly the deetail doesn't show here, but the people seem to go for the shadows and the feel of an end here. So I've been told.
If the checks clear, it hangs on a wall, and appreciated over time, then I guess it's art. JMO
