i agree. you'd think people would have just a little more sense than to post pics that are so wide you they don't fit on the screen. what? they have super wide-screen panavision monitors at home? these are probly the same people who think the world is flat and, since it's a big world, it must be really wide. i bet these people only shoot with wide angle lenses. i'll bet they themselves are on the wide side. from now on, i'm going to give them a wide berth. i mean, what is this? a wide open forum? its got rules, ya know. and if this place ain't wide enough for some people, they oughta go where it's wider!!!

Finally! Someone who posts something big enough to see on my 23" MAC monitor.

What's with all these little postage stamp images all the time?

I have the same problem in reverse.. I am using a 21" Trinitron monitor at 2048 wide resolution.. so the 600 pixel wide images look like thumbnails..

I prefer 800 - 1000 in width..

Oh well, nobody wins.

19" at 1200x1600 .22 dot pitch and my website is not set up for 800x600 but more like 1024.

800x600 is old hat.

Don, you beat me to the punch. The only thing is, I was going in the opposite direction. 600x### is so 2005. Technology is always improving and so should our posts. Moore's Law states that computer processing power doubles every 18 months and has stood true for the last 40 years. Monitors, hard drives, broadband connections, and digital pixel count may not follow Moore's Law, but they improving by leaps and bounds year over year. My first flat pannel monitor was a 1024x768 which is almosr 6 years old now. Currently I'm using a Dell 24" flat pannel with 1920x1200 and a laptop with 1680x1050. Heck even my coorprate issued laptop has a 1680x1050.

Just some perspective:
1. Most Photographers are shooting (or scanning) at greater than 5 MP and most new cameras are pushing to >10 MP.
2. A quick search on Bestbuy.com showed that they only have 3 monitors with less than 1280x1024.
3. Broadband connections of 1-5 Mbps are common place now.
4. Server space is cheap.
5. We're all proud of our images and who want to compress them down to less than 5% of their origional size before displaying them.
6. Bigger is better...lol
7. People on this site are talking about spending more than $8,000 on a new camera and lens and no-one bats and eye....so $500 to $1000 for a decent monitor doesn't seem to out of line. Best deal on D2x & 300mm2.8afsVR ?

With all of that said, I don't want to be looking at raw 10 Mp images online either, but I do think 800-1000 is reasonable for most and I would urge RG to take that into consideration when revamping the GG site and the portfolios.

Post Big but be reasonable!!!
Allen
