All right a couple of images taken yesterday. I was inspired by the image that rolando shot a while back with a couple of models. Should I print it or trash it? shot specs( canon 10D, f-4,shutter at 40, iso 1200, tungsten hall light for warm effect and hand held. post work. pushed the red in color balance. What kind of feel do you get for the image? I'm gonna use a word I don't think I've used maybe 10 times in my life... "pedestrian". That's the feeling I get looking at your first image. Technically, it's fine - the exposure is good, the colors are pleasing, the model is attractive but there's no "zing" or "WowZa" to the image. It's just another pretty girl leaning against a middle class home's hallway. That, by the way, is NOT a slam at your house - I'm sitting here looking at my hallway thinking "did we buy the same tiles" and wondering what my hallway would look like with a half-nekkid woman lounging up against the doorway.
To be honest, if it weren't for the fact that there's golf on the TV right now (my wife is the sports nut in the family), I'd probably not have given the first image a third and fourth glance.
Your second image draws me in a lot more, though.. I'd have cropped it a bit tighter, especially on the right hand side, and a bit tighter on her head. But, for some reason, the face doesn't look as sharp as I wished it had been. Maybe there's a bit of flare that we're not really seeing that's softening the contrast or something. Don't know. It's closer, but Roberto, you've done better stuff so.....
If your criteria for printing is "I like this image" then by all means, go fer it. If your criteria is "this replaces something else in my All-time 10 greatest hits", then..... I think not.
I'll second what Wayne says. I usually like the golden color images, but in this case there's nothing about the images that says "warmth." If she were on a beach at sunset, or in front of a warm fireplace, the golden color looks great. These remind me of the pictures I used to get shooting film indoors. On the plus side ... the model's beautiful ... and you took a chance and tried something different. Remember, not every experiment will turn out great, and for every photographer who doesn't like these images, there will probably be just as many photographers who like them.
Maybe next time, you could try shortening the DOF so the focus is on the model and the background is out of focus. Again ... this is just my opinion! Did I mention she's a beautiful model ... again, just my opinion!
that nothing in this image is level or plumb is distracting to me. if it was meant to be a canted/dutch angle, then i think it should serve some purpose, i.e., to convey some kind of feeling or emotion. the incandescent doesn't really work for me either. the model, however, is drop-dead gorgeous.
