Dang...I miss all the fun when I'm out playing. Or was it all that fun?

Oh well. Sounds like no matter how much things change they kind of stay the same.

If I, Master Po, came to visit you (on weekend perhaps), would we just limit
ourselves to simply to the subject of photography? I think not. Photography sure, but after some fine wine or excellent beer I'm sure our discussions would drift onto other subjects.

If a group of us meet one day for - - - let's say JT's: Surf and Turf, Or Rolando's; Glamour and Nude workshop, would we only talk about f stops and
white balance or work flows? I truly doubt it.

If Jimmyd and John Paul met in person to finally settle who's the better
photographer once and for all-- would they still not discuss the finer points
of booze, broads and cigarettes after they gathered their teeth and tattered
clothes and bandaged each other up (Or maybe in this case one drives the other
to the emergency room to avoid murder charges! LOL!)

You should not expect a forum to be any different?

To keep a forum like this sedate and super polite would require such heavy
moderation that free expression would be sacrificed. No one would be served.

We sometimes have to tolerate "frictional" relationships in order to serve
the greater good.

Just as you are at the time in life you enjoy being a grandfather, the same
applies to those who come after you in the forum,,, you've been there and done
that, and you can still offer the guidance and wisdom that comes with your years
on this planet......

I hope this helps you---------

Greg.

love ya, bro. but i gotta disagree.

if all that got spoke here was photography it would be drone-land... a one-dimensional cyberverse void of humanity. as it is, i probly spend too much of my time thinking and breathing this thing we do, whether its on this forum or in my daily life. and if all the GG rules were enforced it would be foto-facism. it's the human frailties and human weaknesses that draw me here. if all i wanted to do was speak photo-ese, i'd make all my postings on photo.net or at some similar URL.

as someone said, this is a community. photography, for the most part glamour photography, is the glue that keeps this community stuck together. we're all individuals with other interests that we like sharing with our community neighbors. and sometimes there's gonna be fights... not that you'd ever find me in the midst of one of them. and the fights, IMO, also act as a catalyst for the epoxy that binds this place.

this joint also serves as entertainment. personally, i'm often amused here. and sometimes, i'll confess, i stir the pot for my own amusement. (yes, i'm often that bored.) but what heck? why not stir it here where i'm surrounded by people who, regardless of their agreements and/or disagreements on issues outside of photography or issues that are only indirectly related to photogaphy, have the common bond of photography? in the end, that which joins us (photography) makes it easier for us to find resolutions (or to meet somewhere in between) when it comes to our disparate views, attitudes, and beliefs that have little or nothing to do with photography itself.

Chip -

I really like that image. You cheated and edited; it wasn't there when I first posted

Nicely put... in a quasi-mystical-like, gregkdavis sort of way.

It just occured to me... how come starfighters and scimitars and walkers and stuff didn't have Bomber Girls on'em? Seems like a serious omission on George's part.

what it is about this site that makes it more interesting than other forum sites. It reminds me of the three divisions of Greek art.

1. Servile Art- this would include the stone masons, wheel makers, those who made useful pottery and such.
As photographers this would be those who do the weddings, the sports venues, the graduations and so on.

2. Fine Art- this would include much of what the Servile Art was, but to a higher degree, the gold inlay of a harness or trapping, the ornate tileing of a wall, vases which where more for decoration, the wonderful statues of the era and so forth.
Today, possibly the glamour shots, fine art nudes, the fine tuning we do in PS to make the the color really pop out and so forth.

3. Liberal Art- at it's root core, the exchanging of philosophies, viewpoints, and ideas.
They to, for their time were thinking outside the box. Are we no different, aren't we artists in our own way or style. I don't think Plato would agree with everything Socrates would say or vice a versa, but in the end messages would be sent and life would go on, each having to think about what was said or wasn't said.

Because we have so many viewpoints here, and personalities, little eruptions are going to happen. But, I think if you look at history, you'll find that only holds true to form in any artist community.

Just My Opinion,

Well Master Po, I have been to a Rolando Workshop, a JT HTL, and I hosted a JT Supershoot here. Overwhelmingly most of what was discussed related back to photography. At none of those events did I hear politics discussed, or religion or whatever. Sure there was talk about jobs that people had and how they would rather do photography full time. We shared and talked about wives kids etc but the conversstion really never strayed beyond.... photography. I never saw people get into spats with each other, everyone traeted each other with respect. No maybe I was talking to the wrong folks, perhaps. Maybe the events you have attended were different, or people acted differently at the events you attended. I am not naieve but at the same time I don't believe it is out of whack to believe that people can remember to act civil towards one another. I'm not talking the greater world population here, just folks that share a common interest. Heck the world population doesn't seem to agree on any common interests.

My point is I have rarely seen a pissing contest here whose root cause, was photography. I don't think I have seen anyone really receive mentoring or training or get questions answered over arguments between folks. I have seen many folks leave for those reasons.

I guess I just expect more from folks and maybe I shouldn't, but alas I always will within at least the smaller circle.

I'm not mad, maybe disappointed again, but not mad. I'm not pretty when I'm mad at all.
