For those of you that need a little history to get caught up, here goes.
Rick is a mentor and friend of mine. I've been working under his tuteledge for almost two years now. I've been to a few of his workshops as a student, assisted him on several shoots, and when I first opened my studio, hired him to come to me for two days of intensive mentoring. It was not for the weak or thin skinned! We created this image:
It's become one of my all time favorites and I use to promote my studio.
Since then, my career has just taken off. Using the marketing and photography skills that Rick and JT Smith have given me, I've managed to establish myself in this small community. There may even be a light at the end of the tunnel. Yup, I might even make a buck or two.
Here's the great thing about a true friend and mentor. They will show you anything they know that you would like to learn. Who cares if you one day end up competing with them for business (I'm not there yet, BTW). A good mentor's philosophy is that if you get where you're taking business from them, then they need to step it up. The best photog gets the business. AS long as your ethical, they have no issues with competing with you one day. That's why they're not bothered by giving me the tools to one day compete for their business.
That's what I love about Rick and JT.
Rick, you're a dear friend and have been very helpful to me. As I wrap up my year and reflect on the good things I have been fotunate to be part of, knowing and learning from you is one of the best things on my list.
