Where to begin in modeling

No, not where to begin in modeling for me (I know many of you breathed a sigh of relief [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]), but where to begin in modeling for her:

Jodi's 21 years old, about 5'6" tall. Her hair's currently black (as you can see), but she's considering going back to her natural color (kind of a dark blonde). She's currently in law school in the East Tennessee area, and she'd like to get started with an agency, and I'm trying my best to help her, but we don't really know how to begin. The main agency in Tennessee I know of is Wilhelmina/Dan Agency in Nashville.

Some questions: How do you go about getting started with an agency? Does she need to have a good looking portfolio before even contacting an agency? What type of modeling should we be looking for her to do? What about the hair -- keep it black, or go with her natural dark blonde? Her light blue eyes really pop with her black hair, but she was wondering if the jet black is a little too extreme.

Any help from both models and photographers about what to do and what directions to take would be really wonderful. Thanks in advance!

First of all, I would go to your local agencies websites and look for submission policies, most of them have area's for it. Usually they take submission via US Postal and some of times of open calls. She will need some clear crisp photos for submission, but it really depends on the agency on whether or not she needs a full book to be signed.

I think she should do natural hair color for sure, the dark does look good on her, but usually agencies want you to be natural as possible, then they recommend any changes in hair.

I think (by looking at the photos) she would easily be able to work commercial, editorial and promotional. Don't forget that they use alot of models in television commercials too, so getting some basic acting/auditioning workshops under her belt helps alot too.
