out of the light and.....

into the shadows I go. Something a little different from me. Trying more moody images with my strobes. I am comming to find out as I learn more and more that my "personal" tastes lean more towards images like this. Comments and critiques welcome.

Well I don't have a critique - I'll leave that to the big dogs - but I find it inspirational. Gorgeous model and I like the strong shadows.

Re: out of the light and.....

Thanks alot man...preciate it. I was afraid of shadows for a long time...then it dawned on me...the real world has shadows...why not exploit that. It adds mood, dimension and realism..and interest for that matter. Thanks again.

Shadows are only creations of light. It's how you use their combination that makes a difference. I like these a lot. Keep practicing and posting.

Like the Shadows
Love the Model,
the only thing that bugs me
is the bright background,

Something someone said about the Eye seeking out the brightest spot in a picture...

Not that I am that good with Lighting and Shadows, but I made up a cute little quote that is on the bottom of my Fred Miranda site posts and it goes like this: "The more I learn about light, the more I like shadows"

Re: out of the light and.....

Steven,

Thanks man..that is something I have been struggling with is lighting the model but not the background...I am not quite adept enough to do that. Johnny Crosslin is a master at it and it bugs the [censored] out of me...lol. There were two lights and a reflector in this..main beauty dish to cam right....hairlight behind cam left and reflector in front at 45 cam left. Any hints would be appreciated...

Re: out of the light and.....

like I said, I'm no master of shadows, perhaps you couldhit up jimmyD for some tips. but this was shot with just two lights. A Beauty Dish @ very low power to the right of the camera and another Light (@ higher power)fired into a gold/silver reflector to the left...

Re: out of the light and.....

The short and sweet answer to lighting the model and not the background is to remember your inverse square rule, and put the model a LOT closer to your light source(s) than to the background... I can manage the trick with less than 15' front to back in my "studio", so I figure anybody can do it...
