I am currently working on some studio space that will be within a space my friend rents hopefully if this works out my rent will be very low. I am eager to do some shoots with models. I have previously used my house/garage in a makeshift studio which i would never request a pro model to work at due to my personal view of unprofessionalism. But thats just me. What can I expect as far as rates i will be charged? I dont want to make the call and say "oh sorry i cant afford that" I know it depends alot on the job but i would like to build up a portfolio on glamour and the like. I am in the New Lenox/Mokena IL area and i wish to improve my skills and build as well as help build portfolios.

Also Comments on the image greatly appreciated.

The image is nice but the lighting is too flat. You need more side lighting or directional lighting to create shadows and highlights to give the photo more of a 3D look as well as show more of her form.

mmmmm I have a converted GARAGE studio, and I beg to differ on Professionalisms..

I believe my images have a professional standard that I've worked hard to learn and reach. granted I maybe an amatuer, but isnt it really about the final result? not the pretty studio??? walmart has a pretty studio, crap portraits but pretty studio!!!

I have 2 JTL 160 strobes shot through white umbrellas. ordering 2 AB 800s tomorrow also have a 24 x 32 wescott softbox (not used here) waiting on the AB with ring so i can use it. hope fullt that will improve my lighting.

Good thing you ordered the BEES! because those JTL 160's are disposables according to JTL when I called them about a flash tube burning out after only one year..they only have a 8,000 flash life expectancy....490.00 for the set I had...right in the garbage!! good call on the Bees!!

You can get more shadows with the umbrellas. You just need to adjust the ratio between the two and also the angle of the main light, plus if you feather the main light a bit then you can keep the light from hitting the backdrop so much.

belive me I am not knocking the ability to work in your garage i do at times but it is difficult for me... no heat or ac for starters secondly my available space is used for my other hobby.. woodworking which translates into sawdust and alot of it..no matter how much i sweep white backdrops stay clean for 3 mins at best. i have alot of large machines and saws and lumber it is kind of hard for ME to pull this off with confidence. unless i move out everything everytime i want to shoot. Also my future studio is in a Cabinet shop but he is willing to build me a room of my own which i can keep CLEAN and professional looking/feeling.

Do a photo shoot of a model working with the tools. Use some shadows and make her look a bit dirty from working.
