#2 of Mike\'s promise

Here's another set up of mine.

I shot Kimi for SuicideGirls.com. Here's the techs:
Canon 20D
28-105 Canon USM II lens (various focal lengths)
1/125 f8
Custom WB set w/a Digital Calibration Target
4 AB1600's
<ul type="square">[*]A - Snoot set at 1/16 power[*]B - #107 gel set at 1/6 power[*]C (main) - 36 Octobox fully diffused set at 1/3 power[*]D(fill) - Shoot through umbrella set at 1/8
Absolutely no Photoshop on these images except resizing for web. That's why there's still the tag showing on the back of her underwear on the last shot. Behind the scenes photos shot by her boyfriend.

Re: #2 of Mike\'s promise

Mike,

Thanks for sharing. It's always nice to see a great shot and what it took (set up wise) to get there.

Power settings on the AB's don't matter to me as much as what they metered at. And even then I only care what everything was set at relative to the main.

Example:

A - Snoot set at -1/2 stop
B - #107 get set at -1/2 stop
C - (Main) - 36 0ctobox fully diffused set
D - (Fill) Shoot through umbrella at -1 1/2 stop

(Just a suggestion - I know beggars like me can't be choosers when asking someone to share information.)

Thaks again,

David

Thank You....

This type of info is excellent for people like myself an avid hobbyist/amature. it gives a better perspective into how things are done and new things to try.

Thank you again for taking the time to share and educate.

Re: #2 of Mike\'s promise

How's this?

A - Snoot f2.4 (metered at back of model's head)
B - #107 gel st f19 (metered at the wall just below the top of the chair)
C - (Main) 36" Octobox set at f9.5 (metered at model's face)
D - (Fill) Shoot through umbrella at f5.6 (metered at model's face)

Do your own math. Heck I can't give you everything!

Mike

Re: #2 of Mike\'s promise

Mike

I cant thank you enough for taking the time to put these shots and post together… this is the prime reason I (and I’d guess many others also) come to Garage Glamour: to LEARN!

There’s a tremendous amount of talent here. When someone such as yourself takes the time to teach/explain/demonstrate (and in some cases, explain it again) we all benefit with better images.

For what it’s worth, I’d love to see a forum category added specifically for “Instructional- Information - Behind the scenes posts such as these where they could be archived for future reference. It could also help with eliminating redundancy in questions &amp; technique and could significantly improve the learning curve for many of us by reviewing these more often.

A sincere “Thank You to you Mike and the others who have shared these setups. It makes us appreciate the shots, time, effort and talent of your portfolios even more.

Re: #2 of Mike\'s promise

That is so great!! Thanks so much for the diagram and the behind the scenes shots!! Really helped me out because that is about how much shooting room I have. (Except for the limit of 8ft cielings wich really messes with my ability to use a boom for hair light.)

By the way, I reconize that brick wall.
