Horny Models ....

Can provide both excitment as well as a certain element of danger. The key is keeping close to the vehicle you're in when photographing them just in case they decide to charge. This guy weighs in about 4000 pounds, stood about 5' to 6' at the shoulders and was over 12' long, making the white rhino second in size after the African elephant. I guessed the horn at about 4'.

Shot with an el' cheapo 35-70 Nikor lens on E100SW to give you an idea of how close I was. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img]

Too damn close I would say!!!!


This shot was taken with a 400mm with a x2 converter and I was very uncomfortable.

Nice shot! Whites can be pretty docile, in some places guards treat them like cattle. I'm a former zoo photog and animal keeper. We had a Black Rhino almost kill one of our keepers several years back. I was almost bitten by one myself. Blacks are very unpredictable! All wild animals should be treated with respect, lots and lots of respect.
