Thanks Steven, I appreciate it. Just wish I was out on the west coast (I grew up in northern Cali). That way I could have slept in for that second image -- more a sunset sort of guys than the sunrise I had to get up at 6 a.m. for here on the east coast.

Thanks again and nice image, as well. Is that California or somewhere else? My hunch is Costa Rica but who knows, may be Hawaii. :-)

Hey Dave, nice work man! Especially the Camera and the Flags!

(just an observation...the angle of the "light beam" is off, it appears.)

Thanks Adam!

On the light beam from the Speed Graphic, that may be due to the angle I was shooting it from. But, then again, the flash I had placed against the back of the Graphic's groundglass might have been a bit higher than center and that made the beam shoot lower in the image.

Incidentally, that image is essentially a test one for an image still in progress (read that as the final version is yet in my noggin and not executed completely ... lol). I'd wondered if placing a flash like that would achieve the result you see in the posted image and was amazed at how sharply-focused a beam it creates.

The next step will an image that has that beam of light illuminating ... something. I'm toyed with it lighting a CompactFlash card to be a sort of illustrative bridge been photographic technology then and now -- but still haven't quite decided if that's the direction I want to go with it. Also in consideration was a single, red rose since I'd like the contrast between a mostly colorless-image with this startling red jumping out at you. We'll see how it ends up and I'll post that result at a future date.

Thanks again!
Dave

Yeah Dave, I had actually thought you PSed that lightbeam in! Ha, thats even cooler that you got that result w/o it! I like the dust particles in the beam as well. I think you implied you put a flash inside that cam...so yeah, probly off center a bit. Good idea

Cool future ideas, too, lets see'em!

Well, I *DO* have my tinkering moments in photoshop ... lol But in this case it was more my wondering about the mechanics of the concept, so the only real way to test it was physically doing it. Not that it wasn't without its problems.

I'd originally wanted to place the flash within the camera's bellows, but the flash was just a fraction too big to fit it inside. That's when I went for placing it up against the ground glass. The rest was pretty easy. One Alien Bee up high and to camera's left in image, open the shutter and aperture of the Speed Graphic, and away I went.

Oh, the dust particles were created by my spraying some Febreze above the scene right before tripping the shutter. No real reason for using Febreze, just what was handy -- and it made the room smell pretty afterwards. LOL

Thanks again, Adam.
Dave

Thanks, Kelly! Now shouldn't you be in bed by now to be rested up for Lancaster tomorrow??? LOL

By the way, weather looks like it will be good for you guys this weekend. Partly cloudy Saturday and sunny Sunday!

Have a great time, wish I could make it!

I know I know!! I had to wait for my load of laundry to finish, going to bed right now as a matter of fact!

Wish you could be there too! At least stop in and say hi!

You will be missed, but we will meet soon!

Wish I could Kelly, but I'll be away in Upstate NY most of the weekend.

But as you noted, our pathes will be crossing eventually. I'll definitely be attending an event next year plus I have a midwest trip in the works for the spring of '06.

Have a safe trip and excellent workshop!
