was eating with some of the older hands. Somebody yelled out "43" and everybody laughed except the newbie. Another yelled out "89" and everybody laughed except the newbie.
"Whats going on?" the new guy asked.
"We've all heard the same jokes over and over so to save time we just numbered them."
The New guy thought it over and thought it made sense so wanting to join in he yells out "23" . . . nothing. So he tries "55" still no laughs.
"Now whats going on?"
The old timer just shruggs and sez: "Some can tell jokes and some can't."
Okay now some (if not all) are saying what's this got to do with anything. Nothing or perhaps a whole lot. It depends on who the story teller is. If its most of the people on this board its a joke (maybe). If somebody with more credentials it becomes a parable; a story of the insiders vs. the outsiders. But if somebody like Robert Saunders or the Fish or Half a Dozen others that occasionaly post here (people who have been there and done what most of us aspire to) were to tell it most of us would chuckle and then wonder if maybe there isn't something hidden behind the numbers.
Me, I think I'm like the second punch line to the joke:
"72" somebody yells out and everybody laughs except one guy who literally falls off his bench laughing so hard."
"Now what's going on."
Old time just shruggs again and sez: "Guess he never heard that one before."
I'll laugh but don't get excited unless I haven't heard (seen) it before.
