If the shoe don't fit don't try to wear it.

What I am saying (and apparently not very well) is that we (or maybe just me) need to stretch into something that is different than what we normally shoot. I'm not saying you have to jump from glamour to cadaver documentation, but change how we shoot what we shoot. It appears I'm the only one who feels this way and that's cool. It has motivated me enough posting the thread to go and do something about it, we'll see if anyone notices.

So take the shoes off.

Mike,

I think I get your point. It kind of reminds me of the use of the "exclusive". Most exlusive offers are available to everyone who want them. "Something new" is rarely something new to the forum but may be new to the photographer or just the latest shoot. "Unique" is rarely unique. Ideas are recycled all the time and I think that it's actually quite difficult to produce a unique product. There are some on this forum that are capable of it, but they are the exception and not the rule.

Don't forget though, that not all of us are as good as you, Jimmy, JT, Rolando and a whole slew of others I can't name off the top of my head. For some of us, stretching is actually getting a beginning shot. For some, a basic lighting shot IS a new shot that stretched us.

We have a great disparity in talents here. Maybe what we need is an additional forum "Know nothing dip ****s" that people like me can post in and our images wouldn't be taken as a whole but given the top 2-3 things that would dramatically change the quality. Then we could start working toward tuning the finer points.

I'll be happy to call you on the carpet if I don't think something you did to stretch didn't work out or wasn't on par with the quality of work you are capable of but if you reply to any of my posts please apply the "Know nothing dip [censored]" standard. (at least for now)

BTW - I'm planning on working on posing more at JT's Vegas workshop so when he's done with me maybe I'll be a "Know a little dip [censored]".

David

I have actually a great appreciation for where you and many others are. I remember what it was like doing something new and "unique to me". I guess that is what I miss. I look at many images everyday whether here on GG, or one of the 5 or so other forums that I frequent. There are people out there producing what I see as new stuff and some are just starting out based upon what I see in their portfolio. I like that and that is what I need to work harder to do. You'll have a great time at JT's event, I look forward to seeing your progress.

If we separate the wannabes from the photo-gurus, then how will the wannabes ever grow? Odds are against the gurus frequenting the wannabe forum. So, the only way for the wannabes to grow, is to frequent the guru forums, ask for honest feedback, grow some thick skin and take the advice given. If you only want the top 3 things that will improve your photo, then simply ask for the top 2 things that will improve your photo.

you're probably right, because as of late I havent seen much constructive help as of late....more Postings for the "Attaboy" reaction.....
but hey..it might be cool to see the Know nothing Dip Bleeps to critique each other......Heck, I have a hard time critiquing the big boys...Im not qualified!
oh well it was just a thought,

Don.

Well Mike, for my part, I *do* look for your posts when I'm here. Maybe I don't always comment - raising my hand and calling it to be counted - but I've been fortunate enough lately to be pretty busy, so that's cut down on my "milling around" time (like now, for example, I'm running a Photoshop batch on one machine, running a Final Cut render on another, and waiting for an upload to finish on another). At those (these) times, perhaps I just don't have the time to form a proper comment...So, as said above, I refrain from the generic "attaboy" unless I can properly qualify it.

Quite frankly, I enjoy your "experimental" stuff - a shot that comes to mind is one wherein the light stand is in view; you were playing with shapes and lines, as I recall...
