Redux on the chimp issue....

I happened to be in one of the Barnes & Noble stores and picked up the latest American Photo. One of the main articles is a short interview with Steve Wayda, one of the Playboy photographers.

If I remember correctly there was a thread started by Jimmy D recently about whether to show models shots while shooting or not. I may have a few details screwed up, but I'm old so I can claim senility...

Anyway, Wayda shoots with a Hassy with a Phase One back and sometimes tethered to a Mac G5 with a 30 inch monitor. (My gawd, that must cost a bunch...)

He says he shows the models shots while shooting to build up their confidence.

That's all... just thought I'd throw that on the fire.

A nice shot of Denise Richards in the issue... (Oops.. I lied, it's Joanna Krupa, Denise is only on the cover..) The new PDN's also interesting.

yeah. i saw that article but haven't read it yet. that's a killer shot of the chic in the bit of water with the smoke on it. lot's of CTO playing on her.

cameras tethered to G5s and or PCs and good-sized liquid plasma screens is pretty much standard operating procedure for the guys shooting these magazine shoots. Laurent Sky, who shoots a lot of stuff for LFP/Huzlter, shoots the same way except he shoots with a Canon 1Ds mkII tethered. he shows the models some of the shots but not while shooting. (like they show it in that pic of with Steve Wayda which, i'm pretty sure, was only set up that way for the behind-the-scenes shot they used in American Photo.) Laurent also often uses this large, motor-powered "lazy susan" that slowly turns the model while he snaps away. Most of the stuff he shoots now is with hot lights.... mostly--in fact almost entirely--Source 4s with one guy hand-holding the key Source 4 and pointing it at the model's nose.

If I showed the models my stuff during the shoots, they would leave in terror. When Satan reaches for his parka, then I will have the ability to show the models the images before I sift through my crap and process the ocassional lucky shot!
