Retouching blood shot eyes?

Recently photographed 2 beautiful young ladies. Both had bloodshot eyes. Almost destroys the beauty of their eyes. They tell me it's from cramming for finals. Using ps2. What is the best way to clean up the red trails?

Try selecting the eye, area (roughly) and adding a Hue/Saturation layer that just applies to the reds, reduce the saturation and then bump lightness so it blends in. Depending upon how much extra you got with the selection, you may have to do additional masking.

Depending on how bad it is, might just be fixable using the dodge tool. I find that very easy and more natural looking when you aren't working with severe conditions.

I tried that ang it still kinda looks bad. The red lines just become black lines.

In that case you were using the burn tool. The dodge tool is the one that looks like a paddle and/or lollipop.

Try this one .....

Create a new empty layer.

Select a very soft brush and using white, cover the bloodshot areas liberally on the new layer. Don't worry about spilling over onto the eyeball or skin surrounding the eye

Next go to the Layer tab at the top and scroll down to the "Reveal" and click it

Chose a smaller brush with a sharper edge and select black for your color.

Erase any spillage on the eyeball or skin surrounding the eye

Now adjust the opacity of the new layer to your liking.

It takes a couple of times to get used to it, but it works for me a lot of times!
