Photo Databse Help

I'm in desperate need of a photo database. I need to be able to "tag" my images with some number of descriptors, then filter my database to give me...say...all the images of models in red lingerie.

I understand that ACDSee can do this, but is cumbersome. I don't need/want an image editor. I don't need to be able to make collages or anything else. I want a very simple photo database.

How do you guys manage your digital library? Right now I just keep things in folders by event...but now I need to be able to filer within an event, and I'm stuck. I've looked high and low and can't seem to find anything suitable.

Got any suggestions?
