Comments on cropping needed

Unfortunately I do not know the "basic rules" of photography yet. I understand the rule of thirds and some other basics, but am really in the dark when it comes to cropping an image. I read in an earlier post from Rolando that arms and hands as a basic rule should be cropped above the joint...something I was unaware. I do not want to rehash that post, but would like some comments on what I have attempted in this image.

I tried to eliminate the bar in the window as I thought it distracting, and the vertical portion of the shade. The image was a close up to begin with so options were limited. I am an absolute novice with PS so be forewarned...

Putting my lack of PS skills aside, is the crop a workable one??
