Lord Patrick Lichfield, the 5th Earl of Lichfield (note there is no T in his surname) also wrote several excellent books in the '80's on photography including Lichfield On Photography an excellent introduction to photography, The Most Beautiful Women which is pretty self-explanatory, and my personal favorite Creating the Unipart Calendar a documentary style book covering his shooting of the 1984 Unipart calendar, a very classy nude calendar along the lines of the famous Pirelli calendars. This book also includes many images made on that shoot and should be in every serious glamour photographer's library.

Unfortunately, these books did not get wide distribution in the USA so finding them can be a bit of a challenge.

Lichfield worked extensively as a magazine photographer, being published in Life, Look, Esquire, Vogue, Queen, and many other well known international editions. He also was involved in environment issues and wrote on humane treatment of animals and preservation of natural wetlands. A most remarkable fellow and photographer.

Lichfield's style brings to mind Robert Farber's work, with softly diffused natural light accentuating the model's curves. It also shares some of David Hamilton's style in that he made extensive use of European architecture to enhance his images of women. This gives them a timeless quality, and they hold their own even twenty odd years after they were created.

I highly recommend all of his books. They are definitely worth searching for!
